The American Parkinson Disease Association Georgia Chapter is hosting an exciting fund raising event and we need your support. Before we ask for your sponsorship donation I would like to give you some information about who we are and how your donation will help the Parkinson’s Disease Community right here in Georgia.

An estimated 1.5 million Americans have Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's is a slowly progressive brain disorder resulting in the loss of dopamine production. Dopamine is the neuro-transmitter responsible for aiding in body movements. Symptoms include slowness of movement, tremor, muscle stiffness, and postural instability. To date there is no cure.

The American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) was founded in 1961 to facilitate patient and family support, medical research, and education. APDA Georgia carries out that mission through an Information & Referral Center, support of respite programs for Caregivers and affiliated support groups which provide education, counseling, assistance and referrals for the Parkinson’s community.

Over 80% of ALL donations go directly to helping those in true need.

Below is a list of the sponsorship we have available along with an example of the support they can pay for in our fight against Parkinson’s Disease!

Platinum Sponsorship - $5,000.00

This sponsorship could pay for 20 hours of medical research! What is clear is that investment in medical research that leads to better treatments for Parkinson’s disease can save millions of dollars each year. Studies have indicated that for every dollar spent on high quality research, $13 could be saved in direct and indirect costs.

Gold Sponsorship - $2,500.00

This sponsorship could pay for the annual medical care for one Parkinson’s patient. The financial burden of Parkinson’s disease on individuals and their families is immense. According to the Parkinson’s Action Network, drugs commonly used to treat Parkinson’s disease cost between $1,000 and $6,000 per year per patient. Annual medical care, including doctors’ visits, physical therapies and treatment for co-occurring illnesses (such as depression) is estimated at $2,000 to $7,000 for people in early stages of the disease, and is probably much higher for advanced stages.

Silver Sponsorship - $1,500.00

This sponsorship could pay for 75 hours of respite care for a Parkinson’s patient. Parkinson disease takes a toll on caregivers as well. The advanced stages of diseases such as Parkinson’s may require that patients receive around-the-clock assistance, which many times falls to family members. Family caregivers must guard their own health and look to respite care when necessary. APDA Georgia assists various programs through grants and scholarships to make these services available to the Parkinson’s Community.
